A new world is inspired by The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald that deeply impressed me. It is not an illustration but one sentence from the book painted on canvas. The sentence reads: A new world, material without being real, where poor ghosts, breathing dreams like air, drifted fortuitously about…like that ashen, fantastic figure gliding toward him through the amorphous trees. The phrase “a new world” is painted repeatedly between the lines. The words, intertwined with vigorous brushstrokes, appear and disappear; they create the depth and the surface texture of the painting. This piece effectively merges the worlds of visual art and written word, highlighting the complexity of perception and interpretation. Ultimately, the subjective nature of art means each viewer will bring their own experience to this dialogue, further enriching the artwork's depth.
Which way is my reflection on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, a novel by Lewis Carroll. The text painted on canvas consists of separate phrases and words from a dialogue between Alice and the Cheshire Cat in Chapter 6. Alice’s face is painted in poster style.
